Are you talking about a web publication or a print publication. If you are talking about web publication then the image is always going to tile if the page exceeds the size of the image. This is true even when your page is 760 pixels wide but the screen on the viewing computer is much wider. It will fill the computer screen. Alternatively insert the image you are using for a background into a standard picture box, elarge the box the size you want, Arrange, send it to the back of your text boxes and other design elements that you want on top.

Hi David thank you for your reply, dont mean to sound stupid over here but when you say print publication - you do mean hard copies that i am sending to the printer, as web publication is email?? I am trying to modify a flyer and take a picture from my documents, z drive and import it onto the background of my publisher page, but it still keeps tiling - is this impossible then do you know? I am going to try a different approach and paste the picture into a picture box and see if that works, thanks anyways for your answer:). Yes a print publication is one that you plan on printing.
The different approach you are suggesting is what I was trying to say with my alternative. After you insert your picture into the picture box you can resize it by dragging the corners and the sides to what ever size you want and then send it to the back using the commands under Arrange leaving the other design elements such as the text boxes on the top layer. One thing to keep in mind is the aspect ratio of the picture. If you right click the picture > format picture > size tab you will see the option of locking in the aspect ratio. This means that as you resize the picture box the picture will retain the ratio of the sides to the top and bottom and the picture will not distort. This also means the picture may not quite cover the background area you want covered. Then you can enlarge the picture beyond the space covered and crop the unwanted details from the sides and top and bottom.
